Background
Averil began playing the fiddle when she was 8 years old. Her first teacher was Bill Hardie she was also tutored by Andy Linklater. Jean-Ann Callander taught her scottish fiddle and it is from Jean-Ann that Averil takes much of her influance.
As a child Averil started playing with the Juniors of the Aberdeen Strathspey and Reel Society, before moving to the Banchory Strathspey and Reel Society whom she played with for many years, and went on tours to the likes of Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, and Shetland. She enjoyed going around the local Accordion and Fiddle Clubs with her parents and brother Gary who plays the accordion, and competing in fiddle competitions around Scotland.

As a teenager Averil got into doing gigs with her brother Gary and other bands such as the 'Auchterby' Ceildh band, and has played with a number of bands since, currently playing with 'Reel Din' and her brother Gary. She loves the opportunity to play with different musicians and loves a good old session.
Averil Enjoys passing on her knowledge and enjoys tutoring people from young to old, and is available for private tuition. She has in the past tutored adult learners with Scottish Culture and Tradition (SCAT) and young children at the Gordon Gaitherin'.
